Janet Lynn (Silberberg) Blazon was born in New York City to Anne and Robert Silberberg in 1953. The middle child, she was raised with her older sister, Carole, and younger brother, Robert. When she was four, the family moved to Hazlet, New Jersey, and when she was 11, the family relocated to Southern California. Janet was a quiet child who was very protective of her little brother. The family created an event out of the Academy Awards each year, as they'd fix their favorite foods, see all of the movies and rate them before the big show. She loved looking at the stars. In high school, Janet loved music and she had a small circle of friends. She was especially close to her friends Hope and Chris. She always cared what she looked like and even as a teen, she would put on mascara for an hour with a safety pin, carefully separating each lash. As a result, her eyes always caught attention because they were beautiful. Her senior picture was absolutely breathtaking. Janet graduated from Crescenta Valley High School and quickly found work at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company.

When she was 19, her life changed forever when she met a man by the name of Ric Blazon. They met through friends and had a lot in common. They both loved music and went to amazing concerts of the day including Jethro Tull and Led Zeplin. The couple enjoyed going to movies together and for fun, they drove up the coast and went camping a few times. They moved into an apartment in Glendale and planned for their future together. In fact, they were living together when Janet finally put her foot down and said with a smile, "Marry me or get out," because it was the next step in their relationship. In 1974, Janet and Ric married in a lovely ceremony at a little church in Burbank, St. Francis Xavier, with Father Fitzpatrick officiating. The reception was held in Ric's father's backyard and the couple honeymooned for three days in Catalina. They laughed and smiled the entire time on their honeymoon and loved their time together as newlyweds.

Two years later, Janet found out she was pregnant and while they were thrilled with the news, it was nerve-wracking because they were a young couple in their early 20s facing parenthood. In June of 1976, the couple experienced their greatest joy with the birth of their son, Eric. Ric was in the delivery room when Eric was born. Janet was the first to hold her son and Ric was the second. As parents, they were devoted to their son. While Janet and Ric returned to work, both sets of grandparents helped to care for Eric. To accommodate their expanding household, the couple bought a beautiful home in Burbank in 1979.

Through Ric's cousin's wife, Janet earned a job at the Walt Disney Company. She started in Group Insurance and worked in many departments over the next 30 years, including Sound, Feature Animation, DVD Home Video, and Interactive Games. They became a Disney family because Ric worked in the Air Conditioning Department as well. Janet always loved the magic of Disney and she loved being part of the Disney team.

Janet embraced her role as a mom and she liked reading books to Eric from a young age. By the time he was five, he loved Star Wars and she bought him Star Wars memorabilia. Eric remembers how his mom used to help him on book reports, because she was so good at writing for her work. She tried to help when she could and she was very supportive of all of Eric's interests. Eric learned how to ride bikes and skateboards outside of their home and anytime he needed something for his skateboard, Janet knew what he needed and got it for him. She went to all of Eric's AYSO soccer games and Little League baseball games, which Ric coached. When Ric played softball in an adult league, she also attended his softball games. She was truly a wonderful, supportive wife and mother.

With a keen eye for current trends, Janet bought clothes for Eric so he always fit in with all of the kids his age. Truly, Janet kept her son in style. She also gave him a great love of music as she owned hundreds of CDs and played contemporary music throughout their home on the stereo system. She loved songs by the Beatles, Eric Clapton, and the Eagles and she attended concerts by Barbra Streisand and Rod Stewart, among others. More recently, as technology progressed over the years, she created a big DVD collection because she loved movies. Between her CDs and DVDs, she probably owned more than a thousand albums and movies. Her favorite television shows included the Sopranos, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol.

Shopping was one of her greatest hobbies and she was good at it. She had closets of clothes and more than one hundred pairs of shoes. Everything was hand-chosen, purchased with a purpose, and well organized at home. Her favorite stores were Banana Republic, the Black and White Store, Macy's, and Nordstrom and she knew all of the best brand names. She loved looking for deals and was so happy when she found a bargain. Sometimes she spent more time and more money in gas than the item was worth, but she loved making the deal. If she went shopping to buy clothes on a Saturday, she'd go 20 miles in every direction looking for just the right items and things that were perfect for her or her family. Her favorite shopping spots were in Glendale, Encino and Pasadena. She simply loved the process of shopping, no matter the time or effort involved. Sometimes she'd buy something on a Saturday and return it on Sunday because she decided it wasn't right for her after all. Her family supported whatever she wanted to do with her shopping adventures because that was Janet. Whether it was surprising the family with a new TV or something else, there always seemed to be a surprise waiting to be discovered. Janet was someone who planned and was an excellent organizer.

With many favorites in life, Janet's favorite colors were pinks and lavenders. She loved roses and she had an amazing talent in caring for orchids. She enjoyed decorating for holidays such as Halloween and Christmas. Early on, she insisted on having a real tree to decorate with lights and ornaments. She baked a beautiful turkey for Thanksgiving, as she was an excellent cook who learned how thanks to her mother. She owned dozens of cookbooks and liked cooking healthy and delicious recipes. This year, she lost 12 pounds, while Ric lost 20 pounds through Jenny Craig. Janet went through many gym phases over the years. She had a lifetime membership with Jack LaLanne and when that closed, she joined 24 Hour Fitness and other classes along the way. Six years ago, they bought a top-of-the-line treadmill that eventually ended up being used as a clothes hanger folded up in the garage. Five years ago, when her son, Eric, moved out, it was an adjustment, but she made plans and transformed his bedroom. She even added an armoire, a new television set, and recently she had Ric bring the treadmill back into the house from the garage, so she and Ric could use it again. Beyond the treadmill at home, she loved going to yoga classes to do exercises and she joined the gym at Disney. When it came to beauty, Janet was on the cutting-edge of beauty and anti-aging products, giving advice to her sister, mother and many friends.

Her favorite magazines were Home & Gardening so her garden looked beautiful and People Magazine because she liked keeping up with the stars. She also enjoyed reading self-motivation books. In 1985, after her father passed away, Uncle Milt influenced her in a positive way and she had great respect for him. In many ways, he became a second father and held an important role in her life.

There were many wonderful vacations over the years. The family enjoyed going to the beach and playing volleyball together. After her father passed away, Janet joined Carole and their mom for a special trip to Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. They also took a cruise to Alaska, went to the Bahamas, and enjoyed several trips with Anne's seniors' group. It was always affordable, organized and first class all the way. Janet had a great talent for finding special deals online when anyone planned vacations. Janet and Ric enjoyed eight vacations to Hawaii over the years and they even joined a time-share so they could take two-week vacations to Hawaii every other year. Janet loved to eat and with an Italian background, she enjoyed every meal. Her favorite drinks were Long Island Iced Teas, French Martinis, and Pineapple Martinis.

Janet was big on having girls' night out and she had so many friends. She was Internet savvy and was very good about responding on Facebook and returning e-mails. She was always in high gear with so much energy, living life at every turn. She loved finding things online, surfing the net and finding special electronic gadgets for Eric to enjoy.

Many years ago, when the family visited Janet's sister, Carole, they fell in love with her cocker spaniel. After that trip, Janet welcomed their own cocker spaniel into the family and named the dog Buffy. In fact, Buffy was always good company for Janet, Ric and especially for Eric after school. After Buffy passed away at the age of 12, it was really hard for the family and they decided no more dogs. Then, one night Ric woke up and noticed that Janet wasn't in bed sleeping. Thinking she was upset about something, he went to find her. What he found was a new cocker spaniel's head popping up on the couch with Janet. Their second cocker spaniel is a sweet girl named Chloe, who is now 10-years-old.

Janet was proud to hang the American flag outside of her home on special occasions and she was so pleased when Barack Obama was elected by the people to be President. She actively encouraged people to vote, as she became more political.

Over the years, Janet was very proud of Eric and his accomplishments. She attended his high school graduation from John Burroughs High School and she was so pleased when he was hired in Post Production. She was proud of him for being devoted to his work in the entertainment industry.

Looking back over her relationship with Ric, they really grew up together. No matter what, Ric always supported Janet to be her own person and never raised his eyebrows at her shopping or what made her happy. He just let her live life and enjoy it. There is an amazing black and white set of four photos of Janet kissing and smiling with Ric on the Santa Monica Pier in a photo booth. It was taken many years ago, but Janet always carried those photos in her wallet to remember their love.

Professionally, the Walt Disney Company appreciated her decades of service. For her 25th anniversary with the company, she received a Tinkerbell trophy in honor of her "25 magical years with the Walt Disney Company." So very proud of her involvement with Disney, she was always happy to send Disney DVDs to the kids in the family. She loved the magic of Disney and she was always a faithful employee. She even mentored younger employees to help them along the path toward success. She was very close to Nina and Heidi at work and made friends easily. With an incredible energy, she also took on other work. With health in mind, she was a distributor for the last year for Mona-Vie with the Brazilian acia berry in it for health and vitality. Her life was about helping other people and making them happy.

When famous people passed away, Janet remembered them as only Janet could. For Princess Di, she bought commemorative plates and stamps and she did the same when JFK Jr. passed away. She appreciated their impact on the world. She also appreciated everything in her own world and made the most of every day. By embracing technology, she took pictures of every adventure and she made mixes of music and gave them away as presents. She was a savvy user of iTunes and created the best mixes for family and friends. She also had an iPhone and a MAC computer. If you needed to find something online or a bargain for airfare, Janet could find it. There was a method to her madness with shopping and she took advantage of airline miles and other deals because she was resourceful.

For their anniversary this last year, the couple went to Carlsbad and Janet made the arrangements. For her birthday only a few weeks ago, Ric took Janet to Las Vegas for four days in early September. Carole and Anne felt they needed to go and they surprised Janet when they jumped out from behind a wall. Janet was so happy to see them. The foursome saw The Love Show at the Mirage with Cirque du Soleil. They also enjoyed a show by Ric's childhood friend, Gary, who is a Frank Sinatra impersonator. He sang New York, New York and other songs and it was fabulous. That was followed by a magician at dinner and it was all for her birthday. They had a wonderful time. Only weeks later, the family found themselves by her bedside in ICU watching her fight to live. The night before she passed, she looked beautiful and one of the pastors at Saint Joseph's Hospital said she looked like she was smiling. Thinking of Janet, the family gave her permission to go and she passed away peacefully surrounded by the family that she loved so very much.

There are many memories now. Janet Blazon was her own person who made her own world. Janet will be remembered as down to earth, easy going and a woman with endless energy. She was determined, vivacious, thoughtful and always thinking of other people. She'd go out of her way to get things for people. If someone said they liked a new song they heard, she'd buy it online and make a dub of it for them. She always thought of her nieces and nephews and gave them music, CDs and DVDs. Her niece, Nikki, often said that she was a "cool aunt" and she was. Janet loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She also wasn't afraid to tell you what she thought, as she was outspoken. She liked her life, she liked her friends and she liked herself. As a husband, Ric was the most easy going good friend to Janet. With 35 years of marriage and time together before that, they were truly great partners in life. Janet was grateful to be married to such a nice guy who was also a wonderful son-in-law to her mom. She had a good life because of him and she was very vivacious and he loved that about her. He was a rock in her life.

For Eric, he will miss the comforting sound of his mother's voice and her company. For Ric, he will miss his best friend. Janet took care of everything from the grocery shopping to paying the bills. She left everything organized online for him and he is grateful for her detailed approach in life. With Janet, you always knew that you were loved and she wrote sweet cards to her family. Her advice to everyone now would be: Don't change, live your life, and don't take anything for granted. As Janet was spiritual, her family believes she is now at peace.

Janet was preceded in death by her father, Robert. She is loved and remembered by her husband Ric; son Eric and his fiancé Fé; mother Anne; sister Carole and her husband Colin; brother Robert and his wife Alicia; uncle Milton and aunt Aurora; cousins Nancy and Debbie; in-laws Archie and Teresita Blazon; brother-in-law Patrick and his son Devin; sister-in-law Arlette and her daughter Tammy; nieces Nikki and Renee; nephews Greg and John; extended family, co-workers and many friends.

If you wish to make a memorial donation in Janet Blazon's name, make it to your favorite charity or say it with a random act of kindness in Janet's honor.

From the family: "We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support at this time. We'd especially like to thank the incredible care from the nurses and ICU unit at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank."

After Glow

I'd like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done,
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing
times and bright and
summer days.
I'd like the tears of those who
grieve, to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.
