I lost my best friend two weeks ago and now my brother, but I knew it was only a matter of time with the both of them. I visited Nickie’s grave on Thursday and cried but now I can move on but I'll surely miss him and our phone calls.

My brother took a severe stroke and then started to get well but then had more seizures. He was doing OK for a while then he had respitory problems. They eventually operated on him and found several tumors leading to cancer in his bowels He has been unconscious for over a month. They did an emergency operation on him this morning but he died at 2:00PM today. He spent all of his life drinking and smoking and watching television. When we were kids growing up in South Boston we got along pretty good until one day when he was out in the back yard he climbed the tree and fell right on his head. He had to be rushed to the hospital for an emergency. From that day forward he never was the same.

He joined the US Army and served over in Korea running message back and forth to the front lines getting shot while driving to and from there. On one occasion he was shot at so bad the Koreans shot at his jeep causing the jeep to roll over and Sonny was hurt. He got a disability from that. After discharge he worked for a trucking company ultimately being injured once again and unable to work again giving him more time to advance his drinking career. I was able to put him into a few detox rehabs on more than one occasion but he just didn’t want sobriety.

He also joined The Veterans of Foreign Wars where he continued on his drinking career. I could go on forever but it would lead to the most wasted life I've ever known, my brother Sonny. I can still hear him telling people when I was with him, "This is my kid brother, Buster."

I love you Sonny,
Your kid brother
