Jung Pan Lin was born in Taiwan in 1964, to his parents Steven and Chui Mai. He joined older brother Calvin and later welcomed younger sister Teresa. As a child, he was very smart and studious. His family was very close and as a result, it was a happy upbringing in Taiwan. He inherited good basic values from his parents and always looked up to his older brother, Calvin, who would become influential in his life. In 1976, when Jung Pan was in 6th grade, his family moved to the United States. Soon, he became known as Jackson, his English name. One of the most enjoyable trips was going to Disneyland when the family first arrived in California. Six years after their arrival, the entire family took the Citizenship Test together and were sworn in as United States citizens at the Convention Center ceremony.

As children, Jackson and Calvin spent a lot of time playing at the arcade or hanging out together. Not only brothers, they were best friends. Both of the boys collected comic books. For Jackson, his favorites were D.C. comics. Meanwhile, Calvin loved Mad Magazine comics. Beyond his comic book collection, Jackson always had an interest in drawing, painting and cartooning, hoping one day to become an artist or cartoonist. He used his talents to win the Santa Fe Springs City Art Competition one year for a colored pencil drawing of the earth which he entered for the theme: Space, Future & Beyond. Jackson had a great interest in science fiction and he loved to read books. One of his favorite books was "Dune."

Jackson graduated from Santa Fe Springs High School and went on to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from Cal State Long Beach. Prior to graduation, he landed a job as a Civil Engineer with the City of Los Angeles. His family was so proud of his hard work. It was a job he enjoyed so much, he remained with the City of Los Angeles for the rest of his life. Jackson was organized and took care of his records meticulously. He was a detail-oriented person who planned trips in detail and also planned for his own retirement with the same organizational skills.

As an adult, Jackson collected bicycles, including two which were foldable. He loved being able to ride a bicycle to the library to read more books. He enjoyed many books such as the Lord of the Rings series, Kung Fu book series, Military books related to World War II and the Vietnam War, along with a wealth of intellectual books on subjects like the Christian Crusade. He had a great thirst for knowledge and loved discussing subjects with his brother, Calvin.

Family was the first priority to Jackson and the best part of his life. In fact, every Friday night was spent with his family for dinner. It was a family ritual that was so important to each family member, especially his parents. We will remember Jackson for his honesty and great loyalty to his family. His advice to others was always, "Be honest and loyal to each other. Most importantly, be generous and be happy." His family believes we will be reunited again and Jackson may serve as our guide when it is our time to join him. We will remember Jackson each and every day...
