Born to Shirley and Bill Crumley in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1948, she was given the name Joy Dean Crumley. She joined siblings Steve, Nell and Johnny in the family. Her father was a preacher and as such, the family moved from Knoxville to Chicago to North Manchester, Indiana. The family was very active in the church while Joy was growing up. She was a very creative child who enjoyed sewing and drawing from an early age. She went on to graduate from Manchester High School. She attended art school for three years in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Joy spent time in a few different cities before settling in for a year in the Virgin Islands. Soon, she moved to California where she met the love of her life, Jim Crowley. They started dating and in 1984, Jim proposed. Joy and Jim were married at Casa Adobe Park in Glendale by her brother, John, and her father, Bill. The couple honeymooned in New England, traveling from Boston to Nantucket Island to Maine. The couple had wonderful years traveling, white water rafting and spending time together. Joy enjoyed creating scrapbooks. She shared her talents in Calligraphy through letters, cards and scrapbooks. Joy worked for Lockheed for eight years as an artist. She was President of the California Tip Toppers Club, otherwise known as the famous Tall Club. Joy was extremely social and enjoyed being around people. She also had a talent for playing the ukulele. She was preceded in death by her son, Joshua. Joy will be remembered for being caring and loving, always wanting the best for everyone in her life. Her husband will miss everything about her because they had an equal partnership, both bringing something different to the marriage. Her advice to everyone would be to accept the way you are and be happy with it. Memorial donations may be made in Joy's name to the California Tip Toppers Club at http://www.tall.org/clubs/cal/la/. |
