Karen Joyce Voss was born in 1955 to her parents, Sylvia and Jim, at a Calgary Hospital. She was a beautiful little blonde-haired, happy child. She had a wonderful childhood. She loved helping her father with the gardening. In school, Karen had many friends. She liked doing things to help others from an early age. Karen enjoyed playing with her friends at the playground at the end of their street. She learned to skate on the pond near the family home. She also loved animals from a young age, especially her German Shepherd, "Rex." When she was 7 years old, Karen and her family moved to California for the beautiful sunshine and nicer weather. She liked seeing new things in California which were different than Canada. One of the first movies her mother took her to see was "Gone With the Wind." Karen fell in love with the film and the movies, dreaming of working in the movie industry one day. Soon, she celebrated with her family when her sister, Michelle, was born. Karen always enjoyed looking after her sister and helping her mother. The two sisters had a special connection over the years, beyond siblings. Karen went on to graduate from North Hollywood High School. Karen worked hard as an executive secretary. Then, her dream came true and she landed a job in the editing department at Disney. She adored the film industry. While out with friends one evening, she met a musician named Justin. The two of them started dating and six years later, the couple was married at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Maryland. Karen loved that the church had historical importance dating back to the times of George Washington. The early years were wonderful with all of their time spent together. They enjoyed traveling on weekend trips to the wine country and Karen always wished for Justin to see a perfect sunset. Over the years, she supported his musical dreams with his band. The couple also built a graphic design business together in 1998. Karen learned so much from her father about organizing a business while Justin worked on the creative side. One of her favorite hobbies was needlepoint. She also liked listening to music. One of her favorite songs was "Satellite" by Collective Soul. Karen loved her dogs "Randy" and "Brando." Over the course of her life, Karen was unselfish, always putting everyone else first in her life. She was a giving soul and an incredible listener. One of her favorite charities was Guide Dogs of America www.guidedogsofamerica.org. Karen will be remembered as a loving daughter, caring sister, devoted wife, and a trusted friend. When we see the perfect sunset, we will think of Karen... |
