Journal | Press | New Profession | Blog |
Born in 1939, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Walter and Dorothy Gorman, she was given the name Marcia Deane Gorman. When she was four years old, Marcia and her mother moved to the Los Angeles area. Marcia always valued family and enjoyed spending time with her mother and sister, Beverly. When her mother remarried Eddie Wise, Marcia loved him like a father. The family was close and enjoyed spending time together. Marcia also had a great love of little dogs. As a teenager, she loved her little Chihuahua "Angel." She also was a talented painter and she had a talent for knitting and crocheting. At Eagle Rock High School she had a high school sweetheart named Bill Pontius. After graduation, she married Bill in 1959. The couple was very excited with each birth of their two children: Pam and Scott. The family bought their first home in La Crescenta. As the kids were growing up, Marcia went to Beauty College. She enjoyed cutting hair and liked interacting with people. She quickly gained work after graduation and worked for a few years. Marcia's focus through the years was always her family and her children. She was involved with Pam in Blue Birds, Girl Scouts and dance lessons. She was a team mom when Scott was T-Ball and Little League. She was the mom who always helped in Cub Scouts. She made a homemade lunch every day and packed it in lunch boxes for school. She also made dinner every evening and the family spent time together at the dinner table. Marcia shared her talents for sewing by creating Halloween costumes for both Pam and Scott over the years. She loved making things for others and took the time to show she cared. While she and Bill were always connected by their children, they grew apart. Both of them remarried very kind and generous people. In 1979, Marcia married Glendale dentist Charles Gail. It was a perfect match as they spent much of their time traveling together. First, the couple used tents to go camping and worked their way up to owning a motor home. There were wonderful trips shared in the Sierras along with a special vacation to Hawaii and an Alaskan cruise. They also enjoyed Jazz festivals and art shows. Marcia was so proud when Pam married Steve in 1981 and Scott married Kim in 1994. Marcia loved her grandchildren Sydney and Zachary so much, she loved cuddling with them and playing with them. She had a special connection with each child. For Sydney, she taught her how to crochet, how to draw and scrapbooking. For Zachary, she enjoyed playing cars and holding him. She liked taking both of the kids to movies. She loved her grandchildren with her heart and soul. Marcia and Charles relocated to Oregon where they spent quality time together enjoying everything life had to offer. They had a great appreciation for nature and ultimately, bought a house in Coos Bay, Oregon, where they could appreciate the ocean. Marcia was very brave and adventurous in hiking to the mountain tops with Charles and boating with him when she was not a swimmer. Marcia's redhead revealed so much about her because there was nothing dull about her. She was always trying to make things nice and pretty around her and for others. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. The hardest part of her life was the loss of her daughter, Pam. The best part of her life was always her family. Marcia will be remembered as a wonderful grandma, a loving mother and a caring friend. She was the one person who always remembered to say, "I love you." She had many favorites in life such as going to garage sales, antiquing and drinking Diet Pepsi. Her favorite saying was "Mama loves you..." A saying that reminds everyone how much she cared for her family. Loving and caring, Marcia will be remembered best for her giving spirit. Her advice to others would be to celebrate life, be happy where you are, be happy who you're with and let people know you love them because a family is a precious gift.
