Johnny was born in Union City, Tennessee. He was the youngest of 4 children born to Carl and Susie Johnson. Unexpectedly, his mother passed away when he was 10 years old. His sister, Mary Jane, took Johnny in and looked out for him. She was a wonderful, positive influence in his life. He enlisted in the Marine Corp on October 13th, 1942. During his years of service, he served as a Marine Corp Sergeant in places such as Siapin, Tinian, and Guam. World War II was a difficult time. Once, Johnny was in a fox hole with 5 other men and was the only man to survive. Due to injuries sustained in the attack, Johnny was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, and a Certificate of Satisfactory Service and Honorable Service Button. When Johnny came home from war, he married his sweetheart, Effie, in late October, 1945. They went on to have three devoted sons: Gary, Tim, and Brent. Johnny worked hard to become the Manager of Ralphs. Dedicated to his employer, he spent nearly 51 years with Ralphs. He always had the number one store in the grocery chain. This led to extensive volunteer work as President of the La Canada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce along with his incredible involvement with Kiwanis. In his free time, he loved riding motorcycles with his sons and playing golf. He is best remembered for giving balloons to children at Ralphs, giving of his time and his talents to others through volunteer work, and making a person feel like the most important person in the room. Johnny Johnson was always proud of his duty to his country and proud of his family. We will miss his smile, his generous spirit, and his kind personality. Johnny Johnson was a man with class, who will be remembered forever...
